Do you like my Blog?

Blatant self-promotion

Well, my blog is almost complete.  You see, I wrote 95% of this blog tool, and personally I think it's a pretty kickass blog app.

If any of my family reads this, they're probably wondering what the hell a Blog is.  My wife had to ask me that a few months ago.  She's so out of date.

For the uninitiated, a blog is a web log.  An online journal.  A diary.  A platform for speaking one's mind, even if nobody is listening.  (Yes, for all I know, nobody is reading this!)

Anyway, the application is called BlogCFM.  It is written in CFML (aka Coldfusion) and works on Coldfusion server and Bluedragon server.  I know that means nothing to 90% of you.  But if it means something to you, ou can find out more about it here.

Hello, Internet? May I speak to Rick, please?

The digital phone revolution

I got my new Linksys WRT54GP2A-AT wireless broadband router today and hooked it up.  After getting the internet access working, I followed AT&T's instructions to activate my CallVantage telephone service.

AT&T CallVantage is a Voice over IP (VoIP) service that allows you to make telephone calls using any broadband internet connection, such as cable or DSL.  There are a lot of really neat features, like listening to voicemail via a web browser, or having voicemail messages sent to you via email.  The best part is the price.  Unlimited local and long distance calling plus all the cool features (caller ID with name, call waiting, call forwarding, etc) for only $29.99/month.  That's a lot cheaper than your local phone company and long distance service.  Heck, I pay about $50/month total, and i don't even have call waiting or caller ID.

I've made a few phone calls already this evening, and it was pretty much the same as it has always been.  I use my normal phone - the only real difference is that I have to use 10 digit dialing for all calls.

Our service officially switches over on the 30th, so if you call me after that, you'll be calling me over the internet!

Moving ... maybe

Sometimes, you do things just because an opportunity presents itself.

While Adrienne and I were talking pretty seriously about moving next summer, it appears that one of her friends is interested in buying our house.  Our realtor would probably charge us in the neighborhood of 5.5% to list, so if we sell for $180,000, that would cost us nearly $10k.  The idea of not paying a realtor's fee is quite pleasant, and if Adrienne's friend sells her house and wants to buy ours - we're outta here!

But where are we gonna go?
