Sith Happens

My review of the third (sixth) installment in the Star Wars Saga

The following may contain spoilers, so if you didn't see the movie yet you may not want to read it....

Star Wars Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith

I could tell by the previews that I was going to like this.  Honestly, I didn't much care for Episode I.  I took it for what it was - a background story.  Episode II was a lot better because there was a lot more action, and far less Jar Jar.  And Episode III was down right dark.  The Empire Strikes Back was also very dark.

Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job as Obi Wan Kenobi.  After he defeated Anakin on the lava planet, I got choked up by his emotion.  You could feel his pain when he shouted out "You were like a brother to me Anakin!  I loved you!".

And when Anakin entered the Jedi temple to slaughter the younglings (young jedi learners.. kids not much more than 6 or 8 years old, it really brought a sick feeling to my stomach.  That must be the dad in me.

I tied up a lot of loose ends between the trilogies and really explained a lot.  I plan to see it again with my wife.

Re: Sith Happens
I should also say that the movie wasn't perfect and didn't tie up EVERYTHING.

The romantic banter between Anakin and Amidala was pretty bad. You can't expect Lucas to write romantic banter =) He should've gotten McGregor's advice - Ewan has been in a number of romantic comedies, hasn't he? :)

In the original Star Wars, Kenobi doesn't seem to recognize C3P0 and R2D2. Given that R2D2 was heavily involved in the "Rescue" of chancellor Palpatine, that seems to be a bit of a flaw. Perhaps "old Ben" had Alzheimers.

I was a little shocked at how quickly Anakin become totally evil after pledging himself to Palpatine. He did so out of his love for Padme, and yet he immediately goes out and slaughters the children in the Jedi temple. IT seemed a bit of a stretch to me.

But this is a fantasy, after all. No movie is perfect!

Re: Sith Happens
Allegedly, Lucas has already announced plans to re-release all six movies in 3D, and is going to do a live action TV series.

Re: Sith Happens
Since you disabled posting in your Episode 7 blog, I just wanted to point out that the plot won't work, seeing as how Anakin Solo was killed during the New Jedi Order series of books. It's not possible. And the last book in the series, has an interview with the author and various collaborators discussing the premise for the 19 book series, and how the plot would unfold. The authors wanted to have Anakin Solo be the most powerful of the 3 Solo children, but George Lucas did not want that to happen, seeing as how there was already an Anakin who was extremely powerful and turned to the dark side. So the authors instead chose Jacen Solo, and killed off Anakin Solo. The title of the last book is The Unifying Force by James Luceno, which has the interview in the back of the book. The book Star by Star by Troy Denning is where and when Anakin Solo died.

Maybe, maybe not.

Honestly, I don't think Lucas would go out of his way to ensure that any story lines in any series of books are maintained in any way.

That being said.. I didn't write the plot, I just posted it. I disabled commenting because the conversation was getting out of hand =)

"Honestly, I don't think Lucas would go out of his way to ensure that any story lines in any series of books are maintained in any way."

I'm sorry, but that is a very ignorant statement. Walk or drive down to the bookstore. Go to the Science Fiction section of the bookstore. Look for The Unifying Force by James Luceno(author); the paperback edition. In the back is a 30 page round robin interview with some of the creative minds that are involved with Lucasfilm, and the author himself(obviously). Read it. I know you are just posting other information, and I'm sorry if I come off a little crass, but seriously. George Lucas was even involved with the latest game that came out: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Sure, he doesn't write the plotlines for these books, but he is still the creative mind on them, when publishers or developers are dealing with his universe. Anyway that's just me ranting and raving.

On another note. I did enjoy Episode 3 very much, but am still a die hard fan of the originals.
