Bill Richardson for President
Categories: Politics
The democratic campaigns are kicking it up for the end of the quarter, and they want my money!
With the election still being 19 months away, I'd been hesitant to fork out any money to any campaigns. I supported Edwards very early in the last election until he was defeated in the primaries. Supporting democratic campigns early on is something I just do these days.
Well, I made my first campaign contribution today. And it wasn't to the Edwards campaign.
Governor Bill Richardson got my money today.
Although Clinton and Obama being the defacto leaders, and Edwards getting a lot of "face time" recently, I don't think any of these candidates are qualified to lead our country. None of them have enough experience, none of them have experience in the administrative branch of the government. I know too many democrats who've already said they won't vote for Hillary, and I think Obama might make a good President.. some day.
But Bill Richardson... he's a governor, and governor's make good presidents (fact, not fiction). Governors WIN presidential elections. Senators do not.
Former UN Ambassador, Secretary of Energy, etc... he might be good for the latino vote too!

I like your choice. I usually vote for a conservative, but I haven't been too happy with the choices on the republican side so far. Time will tell, but if the vote were today, and I were to vote for a Democrat, it would probably be Bill Richardson.

Re: Bill Richardson for President
I'm planning on voting for Giulianni in the Republican primary. He did a decent job of cleaning up NYC and I think he'll make a very good Commander-in-Chief.
Richardson seems like the least bad Democrat candidate, therefore I predict that he'll lose badly.

Re: Bill Richardson for President
I have also contributed to the Richardson campaign. Not much, but then I don't have much money to give. But I will continue to support him. I have nothing against the Democratic frontrunners - it's just that Richardson stands out as far more qualified and far more capable than any of the other candidates running for either ticket - indeed better qualified than all the others put together.
I very much hope to see him become president and I will help as much as I can. If it's another Democrat, however, strong support for Governor Richardson might lever him into a strong position in that administration, perhaps VP or State. Given his capability, we really need him as highly placed as we can get him.
So supporting Richardson financially and with organizational help is not only a good ethical move - it's good political calculus.

Re: Bill Richardson for President
The New Republic has a new article on Richardson (annoying but free registration required):
http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20070618&s=lizza061807
Short version: he's all talk, no substance.
Oh well. I was hoping the Democrats would put up a decent candidate, for the sake of healthy competition, but no such luck.

I have no intention of registering with "The New Republican" =)
There will be a healthy competition, no matter who gets nominated, you know that.
